1、第1任
周恩来（ZhouEnlai；1898年3月5日—1976年1月8日），中华人民共和国国务院（1954年9月前称政务院）总理，1958年前兼任外交部长，历任中共中央副主席、中央军委副主席、中国人民政治协商会议副主席、主席等职。新中国外交事业的创始人和主要领导者之一。
2、第2任
陈毅（ChenYi；1901年8月26日—1972年1月6日），中华人民共和国国务院副总理（1954年—1972年）兼外交部长（1958年—1972年—）。获元帅军衔。
3、第3任
姬鹏飞（JiPengfei；1910年2月2日—2000年2月10日）。中华人民共和国国务委员兼国务院港澳办公室主任。山西临猗人。1931年参加宁都暴动后加入红军。1933年加入中国***。参加过长征。长期担任军队卫生工作和军队政治工作。中华人民共和国成立后，调外交部工作。
4、第4任
乔冠华（QiaoGuanhua；1913年3月28日—1983年9月22日），江苏盐城人。早年留学德国，获哲学博士学位。抗日战争时期，主要从事新闻工作，撰写国际评论文章。
5、第5任
黄华（HuangHua；1913年1月25日—2010年10月24日），曾用名王汝梅。中华人民共和国外交部部长、国务委员、国务院副总理兼外长（1976年12月—1982年11月）。河北磁县人。1936年加入中国***。燕京大学肄业。
6、第6任
吴学谦（WuXueqian；1921年12月19日—2008年4月4日），上海人，1938年10月参加工作。曾任国务院副总理、国务委员（1983年6月—1988年3月）兼外交部长（1982年11月—1988年4月），其间曾访问朝鲜、日本、肯尼亚、阿根廷等50多个国家。
7、第7任
钱其琛（QianQichen；1928年1月5日—2017年5月9日），上海嘉定人，中华人民共和国国务院副总理（1993年3月—2003年3月），外交部长（1988年4月—1998年3月）。
8、第8任
唐家璇（TangJiaxuan；1938年1月17日—），江苏镇江人，中华人民共和国国务委员（2003年3月—2008年3月），外交部部长（1998年3月18日—2003年3月）。1955年到1962年先后在上海复旦大学和北京大学学习。
9、第9任
李肇星（LiZhaoxing；1940年10月—），山东青岛人，1964年北京大学毕业，外交部长（2003年3月—2007年4月），全国人大常委，全国人大外事委员会主任委员。
10、第10任
杨洁篪（YangJiechi；1950年5月—），上海市人，大学学历，中华人民共和国国务委员（2013年3月—2018年3月），外交部长（2007年4月—2013年3月），中央外事工作委员会办公室主任。
11第11任
王毅（WangYi；1953年10月—），北京人。1982年北京第二外国语学院亚非语系日语专业毕业。经济学硕士。1989年至2001年间，历任驻日大使馆参赞、外交部亚洲司司长、外交部部长助理等职。2001年至2004年，任外交部副部长。
2004年至2007年，任驻日大使。2007年后继续担任外交部副部长，曾在朝核问题六方会谈中担任中方代表团团长。2008年6月任中共中央台湾工作办公室（国务院台湾事务办公室）主任。第十八届中央委员。2013年3月，在第十二届全国人民代表大会第一次会议上被任命为外交部长。
